Jean-Claude Van Damme attempts comeback with "The Grappler"
26 January, 2009
Jean-Claude Van Damme is attempting a big comeback with a new movie he says was filmed in one week. It's called "The Grappler" and it focuses on Van Damme's character, Harvey "The Hammer" Henson, a professional wrestler who makes his way through the independent circuit, trying to get back in the game for one final showdown with his former rival.
"It's one my most challenging roles to date," says Van Damme. "My character faces health problems that may end his wrestling career for good. He attempts to come to terms with his life outside the ring, by working full time at the hardware store, trying to reconcile with the son he abandoned in childhood and forming a closer bond with a prostitute he has romantic feelings for."
Jean-Claude says the movie has been in the works for 15 years. However, sources say the script was written and shot the day immediately following the Golden Globe Awards.
